Founded
in 1988, NCRTA functions as an advocate for Recreational Therapy in
order
to promote the health and well-being of the public through services and
the development and implementation of professional standards by its
membership.
Services provided by NCRTA include education/training opportunities,
legislative
and health care monitoring, research support and professional
communication
networks.

This
web site is managed by the North Carolina Recreational Therapy
Association
(NCRTA), a non-profit, professional organization of licensed
recreational therpists and assistants; certified therapeutic
recreation specialists;
and persons/organizations
who support recreational therapy services in North Carolina.
Recreational therapists (LRT) and recreational therapy
assistants (LRTA) are licensed by the North Carolina Board of
Recreational Therapy Licensure etsablished in October 2005. The titles,
Therapeutic
Recreation Specialist (TRS) and Therapeutic Recreation Assistant (TRA)
are used by individuals who were certified by the previous State
of North Carolina Therapeutic Recreation Certification Board who
have not yet reached their certification renewal date and obtained
the new license.
The title,
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), is a national
certification
credential. According to North Carolina law, only
individuals
licensed by North Carolina's Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure
may practice or represent themselves as recreational
therapy/therapeutic recreation
professionals in North Carolina.
